Cultivating a strong relationship with your business clients

If you want your clients to keep on coming back to your company, you need to be approachable and easy to talk to. You need to sit down and develop a strong relationship with your client so that they trust your work and your abilities.

One way to cultivate a strong relationship with your clients is to put together a contract for every project you work on with them. Not only will this protect you if something goes amiss, but it say to your client that you are taking this project serious. A contract should list the responsibilities of everyone involved, how you are going to get the project done, the timeline of the project, and what the success of the project looks like. You want to show your clients that you are on the same page.

Another way to cultivate a strong relationship with your clients is actually to take time to get to know them. You should discover what kinds of things your clients like and does not like. Do be afraid to ask about their family and friends. Ask them what their hobbies are. As you learn information about your client, write it down and review it before each meeting. If they tell you something about a sick loved one or about a problem, ask them about it the next time you see them.

Just because you get to know them does not mean you have to be with them 24/7. Remember to define the roles between each of you. As you get familiar with each other, it may be tempting to depend fully on each other.

As your relationship with your client grows, do not forget why you are cultivating a relationship in the first place. Stay focused and remember the goals you have established. Becoming friends does not mean you should stop meeting the requirements and contracts previously mentions.
