You Can’t Avoid the Internet Anymore

If you own a business, you cannot ignore the internet. You know by now that it’s not just a passing fad. You also should know that the overwhelming majority of your customers are on the internet. They’re a savvy bunch with short attention spans, so you’ve got to grab their attention and hold it. A majority of your customers are also are linked in to the world through their smartphone, which calls for an even briefer and punchier message. Here are some ways you can harness the internet to do your business’s bidding.

  1. Make your own website.
This is number one. People expect you to have a webpage. If you’re a restaurant owner, you need to have directions, contact information, and your menu on your restaurant’s webpage. Yes, your menu. People aren’t going to make the trip to your restaurant anymore without knowing your menu and your prices. You’re helping them make the decision about where to eat out tonight by informing their decision. If you don’t own a restaurant, you need to have your basic information about your business– and a price list helps too, similar to the restaurant menu argument. Your website should also have links to every other web presence you have around the internet.
  2. Make a Facebook page.
Your fans can join up and get updated when you have a special or sale. They can pass along constructive criticism or suggestions. They can easily post your links for others to see. This is especially imperative if you have a small business. A Facebook page will ensure your customers are thinking about you every time you post (though that doesn’t mean you should over-post).
  3. Get a Twitter account.
Twitter is one of the easiest ways that your fans or customers can get in touch with you. It’s a small reminder that you exist. Post specials, host polls, and invite customer discussion.
